Electric Bike Buying, Battery and Maintenance Guides

Practical, model-agnostic advice for researching a GTWO e-bike or any used electric bicycle.

How to check an e-bike battery before buying

Ask for the voltage and amp-hour rating, inspect the case and connector, confirm the correct charger is included and ask how the battery has been stored. A display showing a full charge does not prove that a battery retains its original capacity. If possible, arrange a test ride and check for unexpected power cut-outs.

How to estimate electric bike range

Battery energy in watt-hours is approximately voltage multiplied by amp-hours. Real-world range is affected by rider and cargo weight, elevation, temperature, tyre pressure, wind, stop-start traffic, assist level and battery age. Compare range claims only when the test conditions are similar.

Used e-bike inspection checklist

  • Inspect frame welds, fork, wheels and handlebars for damage.
  • Check brake pads, rotors, cables and lever feel.
  • Test gears, chain, cassette and bottom bracket.
  • Inspect battery mount, electrical connectors and charger.
  • Test display, lights, assistance sensors and motor response.
  • Ask about spare parts, warranty exclusions and proof of purchase.

Road legality and safe use

E-bike rules differ by country and sometimes by region. Rated motor power, assisted speed, throttle operation and vehicle classification may determine whether registration, insurance, a helmet or a particular road type is required. Check official local guidance before riding on public roads.
